The Mets will try to make it two in a row against the Nationals this afternoon at Citi Field when John Maine makes his second start since returning from a three-month stint on the disabled list.
Maine is expected to be on a limit of about 75 pitches today as he tries to convince the Mets to bring him back next season by tendering him a contract this December. He threw 57 pitches in a mostly successful, three-inning outing last Sunday in Philadelphia in his post-DL debut.
Maine, who is 7-3 with a 4.52 ERA in 12 career starts against the Nationals, will take on Garrett Mock. The right-hander is 3-7 with a 5.75 ERA this season.
