In the immortal words of Kenny Loggins, this is it: The Mets finally get to close out this embarrassingly awful season today when Nelson Figueroa takes the mound against the Astros at Citi Field.
Jerry Manuel is resting Jeff Francoeur for the finale as the Mets go for a sweep to end the season and reach the 70-win marker for the year. David Wright and Carlos Beltran are in the lineup after getting Saturday off.
Figueroa, who is 0-2 with a 6.75 ERA against the Astros in seven career appearances (two of them starts) will face off against rookie Wilton Lopez. The Houston right-hander is 0-1 with a 9.42 ERA in seven appearances, one of them a start.
Here is the 69-92 Mets’ order for the 1:10 p.m. game:
Angel Pagan LF
Luis Castillo 2B
David Wright 3B
Carlos Beltran CF
Daniel Murphy 1B
