ATLANTA — The Mets continue their lengthy run of games within the NL East tonight when John Maine takes on the Braves in the opener of a two-game series here. Maine is coming off his best start of the season, allowing just one run on one hit and three walks in a April 27 win over the Marlins. He is 2-3 with a 5.17 ERA in six career games against the Braves, including a 1-2 mark and 5.40 ERA in three games at Turner Field.
Maine will square off against Braves right-hander Javier Vasquez, who is in his first season with Atlanta. He has an 8-7 record and 3.25 ERA in 21 career starts against the Mets, but he hasn’t beaten them since Sept. 18, 2003, as a member of the Expos.
On the good-news front, the Mets will welcome Carlos Delgado back after he missed five games due to an ailing hip. Delgado was scheduled to return Sunday in Philadelphia before that game was rained out.
