Game 3: Mets at Reds
CINCINNATI — The unbeaten Mets are hoping erratic left-hander Oliver Perez can shake off a rough spring when he makes his regular-season debut here this afternoon against the Reds. Perez, who also pitched for Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic last month, was bounced around at times in Grapefruit League action. He ended his spring by giving up a grand slam to Boston’s Jed Lowrie at Citi Field last Saturday. Perez lasted just 2/3 of an inning in that start.
Perez is 9-4 with a 4.02 ERA lifetime against the Reds, and the nine wins mark Perez’s high against any team. He is 4-2 with a 3.91 ERA at Great American Ball Park.
Perez will face off against right-hander Bronson Arroyo, who is 4-1 with a 2.02 ERA in his past six starts against the Mets. Arroyo has been battling carpal tunnel syndrome this spring.
