Game 40: Mets at Dodgers
(UPDATED) LOS ANGELES — Losers of three in a row, the injury-ravaged Mets will try to close out the West Coast segment of this 10-game trip on a high note here tonight when Livan Hernandez takes the mound at Dodger Stadium. Hernandez is coming off one of his worst outings of the season, giving up five runs on eight hits in five innings last Friday in San Francisco. Hernandez is 9-13 with a 4.42 ERA against the Dodgers in 28 career games.
Hernandez will face off against Dodgers right-hander Jeff Weaver, who was a late replacement for Eric Stults after Stults sprained his thumb Tuesday. Weaver, who is in his second go-round with LA, is 2-1 with a 6.10 ERA in five career starts against the Mets but hasn’t faced them since 2006.
Tonight’s game is also notable for Daniel Murphy‘s first major-league start at first base. So in the span of a week, the Mets have started two players (along with Jeremy Reed) at first who had never previously played a big-league inning at that position.
Here is the 21-18 Mets’ order for the 10:10 p.m. game:
Jose Reyes SS
Luis Castillo 2B
Carlos Beltran CF
David Wright 3B
Daniel Murphy 1B
