Game 43: Mets at Red Sox
BOSTON — The Mets will go for their first-ever sweep at Fenway Park this afternoon when Tim Redding takes the mound against Red Sox knuckleballer Tim Wakefield in the series finale. The Mets are still on a high after Omir Santos‘ improbable ninth-inning homer off Jonathan Papelbon led to a 3-2 comeback victory Saturday night, and Redding will try to keep the good feelings going in his second start as a member of the Amazin’s.
Redding pitched well in his Met debut earlier this week in Los Angeles against the Dodgers, allowing just two runs on two hits and four walks (with four strikeouts) in six innings of an eventual 3-2 loss. However, the right-hander is 0-2 with a 12.71 ERA in two career starts against Boston.
Redding will square off against Wakefield, who is 0-3 with a 3.86 ERA in three career starts against the Mets but has not faced them since 2001 at Shea Stadium.
