WASHINGTON — Tim Redding will get one more — and perhaps final — chance to prove himself to the reeling, injury-ravaged Mets tonight when he takes the hill here against the last-place Nationals at Nationals Park. Redding is on thin ice after posting a 9.20 ERA in his first three starts since being called on to fill Oliver Perez‘s vacancy in the rotation.

Redding is no stranger to the Nationals and Nationals Park after spending the past two seasons with Washington before signing with the Mets in free agency last winter. Redding is 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA in three career starts against his former team.

Redding will be opposed by impressive Washington rookie Shairon Martis, a right-hander who has won five of his first six decisions this season. Martis is making his second start against the Mets after taking a 9-7 loss here on Sept. 17, 2008.

Here is the 28-24 Mets’ order for the 7:05 p.m. game:

Alex Cora SS

Luis Castillo 2B

Carlos Beltran CF

David Wright 3B

Daniel Murphy 3B

Fernando Tatis LF

Fernando Martinez RF

Brian Schneider C

Tim Redding RHP (0-2, 9.20)

The 14-38 Nationals will counter with:

Cristian Guzman SS

Nick Johnson 1B

Ryan Zimmerman 3B

Adam Dunn LF

Elijah Dukes CF

Austin Kearns RF

Josh Bard C

Anderson Hernandez 2B

Shairon Martis RHP (5-1, 5.62)
