WASHINGTON — The Mets hope to keep the good feelings going from their 10-inning win here Friday over the Nationals when John Maine takes the mound tonight against the worst team in baseball. Maine appears to be rounding into form after a rough start and carries a personal two-game win streak into Nationals Park this evening. Maine has allowed just seven earned runs in his past five starts combined, a span of 30 innings.
Maine also dominates Washington, posting a 7-2 record and 3.79 ERA in 11 career starts. The seven wins are Maine’s most against any team.
Maine will be opposed by Long Island native John Lannan, a left-hander who was the Nationals’ Opening Day starter. Lannan has lost his last two decisions, including a 5-2 setback against the Mets at Citi Field on May 25.
Here is the 29-24 Mets’ order for the 7:05 p.m. game:
Luis Castillo 2B
Emil Brown RF
Carlos Beltran CF
