Game 57: Phillies at Mets
The suddenly homer-happy Mets will look to clinch a series victory over the rival Phillies tonight when Mike Pelfrey faces Philadelphia ace Cole Hamels at Citi Field. Pelfrey will be bounce-back mode after what he described as the worst outing in his major-league career last Thursday in Pittsburgh, when the big right-hander allowed nine runs (eight earned) on nine hits and four walks in just 3 2/3 innings of an 11-6 loss.
On the plus side, Pelfrey has beaten the Phillies in each of his two starts against them this season. He is 3-2 with a 4.19 ERA in his career versus Philadelphia.
Pelfrey will be squaring off against Hamels, who is facing the Mets for the first time since labeling them “choke artists” in the offseason. Hamels was 0-2 against the Amazin’s last year and is just 1-3 with a 3.79 in six career games versus them.
Here is the 31-25 Mets’ order for the 7:10 p.m. game:
Luis Castillo 2B
Alex Cora SS
Carlos Beltran CF
Gary Sheffield LF
David Wright 3B
Fernando Tatis 1B
Ryan Church RF
Omir Santos C
Mike Pelfrey RHP (4-2, 4.85)
