Game 6: Mets at Marlins
MIAMI — The Mets are looking to close out this six-game trip and head to new Citi Field on a high note this afternoon when ace Johan Santana takes on the Marlins in the series finale at Dolphin Stadium. Santana is coming off an outstanding opener last Monday in Cincinnati, where he pitched 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball — striking out seven and allowing just three hits — in an eventual 2-1 Mets win.
The last time Santana saw the Marlins was last Sept. 27, when he gamely staved off elimination (at least for one more day) by pitching a three-hit, complete game shutout at Shea Stadium on just three days rest.
The left-hander, who is 5-0 with a 1.83 ERA versus Florida in his career, will face off against talented young Marlins righty Josh Johnson.
Something likely will have to give today, considering Johnson is a career 4-0 with a 1.76 ERA versus the Mets in five starts.
