Game 61: Mets at Yankees
(UPDATED 2.0) The Mets look to win the initial round of the Subway Series today when ace Johan Santana takes the mound against A.J. Burnett at new Yankee Stadium. Santana is in a bit of a slump (at least for him), having allowed 17 earned runs in his past five starts covering 33 innings. The Mets have finally provided some run support for the left-hander, though, and won four of those five outings.
The Mets also have to like their chances thanks to Santana’s history against the Yankees. He is 4-1 with a 3.15 ERA in seven career starts, including 3-0 in five starts in The Bronx.
Santana will square off against Burnett, the Yankees’ expensive free-agent righty who is off to a uneven start in pinstripes. The former Marlin and Blue Jay is just 2-3 in his past five decisions, as well as a mere 2-6 with a 3.83 in 16 career starts against the Mets.
