Game 73: Yankees at Mets
(UPDATED) The Mets will be looking to bounce back from Friday’s 9-1 Subway Series disaster tonight when one-time Yankee Tim Redding takes on his former team and A.J. Burnett at Citi Field. With Oliver Perez potentially coming off the disabled list next week, this could be one of Redding’s final starts before moving to the bullpen as a long man.
Redding has done little to merit a permanent stint in the rotation, allowing 59 baserunners in just 40 innings over seven starts. Although Redding is coming off his first win as a Met, the journeyman right-hander has given up 11 earned runs in his past 19 1/3 innings.
Redding, who has never faced the Yankees, will square off against Burnett, who shut out the Mets for seven innings of a 15-0 win at new Yankee Stadium on June 14. Burnett allowed just four hits while striking out eight in that game.
Here is the 37-35 Mets’ order for the 7:10 p.m. game:
Alex Cora SS
Argenis Reyes 2B
David Wright 3B
Ryan Church RF
Gary Sheffield LF
Daniel Murphy 1B
Jeremy Reed CF
Brian Schneider C
Tim Redding RHP (1-2, 6.08)
The 41-32 Yankees will counter with:
Brett Gardner CF
Nick Swisher RF
Mark Teixeira 1B
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Robinson Cano 2B
Jorge Posada C
Melky Cabrera LF
Ramiro Pena SS
A.J. Burnett RHP (5-4, 4.24)
