Not once has he pitched on less than four days’ rest.

That will change Friday if the Yankees are able to beat the Rays in Game 4 of the ALDS on Thursday night, with Cole set to take the mound on three days’ rest in a Game 5 elimination game.

Asked about Cole’s attitude regarding the potential start prior to Game 4, Aaron Boone said the right-hander told him “Give me the ball.”

Cole was not expected to be available for Thursday’s game after pitching in Game 1 on Monday and throwing 97 pitches in the victory over the Rays in San Diego at Petco Park, but Tampa Bay manager Kevin Cash, asked if he thought Cole might be “looming” in Game 4, said “not a doubt in my mind.”
