Gerrit Cole is ending his year with another major accomplishment — the release of his official New York Yankees jersey.
The pitcher was introduced during a Dec. 18 press conference as the newest member of the Yankees. And just one day later, his official jersey — and some additional Yankees merch — launched on Fanatics.
Cole signed a nine-year contract with the Yankees worth totaled $324 million.
However, to get his No. 45 jersey, he had to broker a deal with first baseman Luke Voit.
With the Nike Swoosh located on the right chest, the latest round of Yankees uniforms marks the first time any MLB team has had a manufacturer’s logo on the front of its jerseys.
The decision completely goes against uniform traditions. But Michael Rubin, the founder and executive chairman of Fanatics, told The Post the change was made based on trends among younger shoppers.
The relocated Swoosh may be a point of contention for some MLB fans. But with all the buzz surrounding Cole’s Yankees contract, it is unlikely the new design will deter fans of the record-breaking pitcher from snagging a jersey of their own.
