LOS ANGELES — If the season were the summer of Aaron Judge, maybe this is the autumn of Giancarlo Stanton.

The Yankees’ best hitter, by a wide margin, in October has been the powerful designated hitter who pulverized one more homer Friday, likely not far from seats he used to frequent.

Stanton, a Panorama City, Calif., native who grew up a Dodgers fan and sitting in the stands in left field after shelling out “$5 or $7,” he said, continued his month to remember in a game to forget, a 6-3, heartbreaking and 10-inning loss to the Dodgers in Game 1 at Chavez Ravine.

The Yankees could not crack Jack Flaherty for five innings before Stanton came to the plate in the sixth.

Down 0-2, Stanton watched a knuckle curve dip but not dive — a pitch that was below the strike zone but at least in the same area code.

If Flaherty had intended to bury the offering, Stanton buried it in a different way entirely.

Stanton bent his front leg to jump in front of the pitch and golfed it, turning his bat into a 9-iron that sent a 412-foot missile to the moon.

As so often is the case with this hitter, there was no doubt: Stanton admired his work from the batter’s box for several seconds before beginning his slow trot around the bases for his sixth homer in this postseason and fourth straight game with a dinger.

“Just battling away,” a subdued Stanton said after the Yankees fell on a walkoff grand slam from Freddie Freeman. “Grinding each at-bat. Getting all the information I can. Trying to produce.”

Stanton, who has yet to win a ring and who has made it clear the ring is his only mission, was not eager to speak about positive moments from a gut-wrenching defeat.

“Loss is a loss,” Stanton said. “Doesn’t matter if it was 3-1 or 10-nothing.”
