Tom Glavine just began the bottom of the first, and one thing to keep in mind with him today is that Comerica Park has a dirt strip from home plate to the mound.

That could be big for Glavine because when the Mets play in Arizona, Glavine has been fantastic. The Diamondbacks field also has the dirt strip, and listen to what Glavine said back in 2005. “Just comfortable on that mound,” he said. “The only thing I can semi-put a finger on is, there’s something about that [dirt] stripe from the mound to home plate that kind of locks me in, makes me feel good about my target and where I’m trying to go and where I’m trying to step with my pitches, and it just kind of gives you a little sense of tunnel vision so for me that’s good.”

Other updates: Shawn Green wasn’t activated from the DL today even though he’s eligible and feels healthy. Willie Randolph said “just give him another day, that’s all,” and wants him to get more work. I think Green should be activated, but it’s not that big a deal. He’ll be off the DL tomorrow.

As for Moises Alou, he headed to New York to be examined by a doctor and is then going to St. Lucie. He won’t be going there for rehab games, though, just to continue healing.
