FORT LAUDERDALE — Not surprisingly, considering the distance, the Mets have left all but three of their regulars back in Port St. Lucie for today’s Grapefruit League opener here against the Orioles at wind-swept Fort Lauderdale Stadium. Here is the Mets’ order for the 1:05 p.m. game, which will open with right-handed reliever Sean Green on the mound for Jerry Manuel‘s club:
Luis Castillo 2B
Daniel Murphy LF
Angel Pagan CF
Ryan Church RF
Ramon Castro C
Alex Cora SS
Nick Evans 1B
Jose Valentin 3B
Fernando Martinez DH
We’re still awaiting word on the health of Fernando Tatis, who was scratched from the trip because of a lingering hand injury. The Mets said Tatis might hit in the cage today in Port St. Lucie, but that isn’t definite.
4:05 P.M. UPDATE: Castillo had four RBIs from the leadoff spot and Church drove in another three runs in the Mets’ 9-3 win. Castillo and Church each had a double and a single to power the victory.
Pagan and Evans also had two hits apiece, part of a 15-hit eruption overall, as the Mets feasted on awful Baltimore pitching.
