Grapefruit: Mets at Tigers
LAKELAND, Fla. — While the media corps awaits further word on Johan Santana here from Jerry Manuel, I’ve got the lineups for today’s Grapefruit League contest against the Tigers at wonderfully named Joker Marchant Stadium. Here is the order for the Mets, who are 2-1 so far this exhibition season and left most of their regulars behind because it’s a 2 1/2-hour bus ride:
Angel Pagan CF
Andy Green 2B
Daniel Murphy LF
Bobby Kielty DH
Nick Evans 1B
Jeremy Reed RF
Robinson Cancel C
Ramon Martinez 3B
Alex Cora SS
Fifth-starter candidate Jonathon Niese will get the opening nod for the Mets, who will also have RHP Bobby Parnell, RHP Brian Stokes, RHP Matt DeSalvo, LHP Heriberto Ruelas, LHP Valerio de los Santos and LHP Jon Switzer available.
4:10 P.M. UPDATE: Niese struggled in an eventual 7-2 loss, giving up two runs (including a Brandon Inge homer), two hits and two walks in just two innings. Parnell, meanwhile, didn’t allow a run but walked three in two innings. The Mets walked seven overall for the second game in a row. Pagan, though, had a productive day out of the leadoff spot, going 2-for-4 to keep his spring average at an eye-popping .500 through four games. The Mets fell to 2-2 this spring with the second consecutive loss.
