PORT ST. LUCIE — Fresh off the Dominican Republic’s shocking WBC ouster by The Netherlands, Jose Reyes is back in the lineup — and batting leadoff — here today in Grapefruit League action against the Nationals. Reyes batting leadoff again might be a sign that Jerry Manuel is considering ditching his experiment of Luis Castillo in that role instead and Reyes dropping to third. Manuel said this week that the Mets’ Opening Day batting order will be set by March 25.
Today also marks the lineup return of fellow Dominican WBC victim Fernando Tatis, as well as Mike Pelfrey‘s first start in more than a week. Pelfrey was sidelined briefly by a strained muscle in his lower left leg. Additionally, fifth-starter candidate Livan Hernandez will get at least two innings in relief of Pelfrey.
Here is the Mets’ lineup for the 1:10 p.m. game, which is not being televised:
Jose Reyes SS
Luis Castillo 2B
Ryan Church RF
Fernando Tatis 1B
Jose Valentin 3B
Bobby Kielty LF
Jeremy Reed CF
Ramon Castro C
Mike Pelfrey RHP
Also scheduled to pitch for the Mets are Hernandez, LHP Heriberto Ruelas, RHP Brandon Knight, RHP Connor Robertson, RHP Carlos Muniz and RHP Matt DeSalvo.
