Matt Harvey – who pitches Wednesday vs. Washington – will make his following, and presumably final, start of the year on Tuesday, Sept. 18 against Philadelphia. He was originally slated to start Wednesday, Sept. 19, but the Mets opted to move him up a day so he wouldn’t have such a long layoff.
“We just changed it,’’ Terry Collins said before this afternoon’s game against Atlanta. “We’re having a situation where we want to look at (Jeremy Hefner), and he’s pitched an awful lot, different roles, so we’re just trying to figure out where we can place the guys.
“With Matt, I thought after the next start, to come back instead of on six days rest (and) we pitch him on the seventh day, he’ll get five full days and we pitch him on the sixth day. So we moved him up a day.’’
Jenrry Mejia will get into the rotation the next day, getting the start that Sept. 19 vs. the Phillies.
