It turns out Alex Rodriguez has reach beyond the outfield fence — way beyond the outfield fence.

The latest installment in the popular podcast “Serial,” posted Thursday, tells the story of secret peace negotiations between American envoy Richard Holbrooke and a Taliban middleman named Tayyab Agha in 2010. In a quest to minimize leaks about these delicate talks, Holbrooke gave Agha a code name to which he only was to be referred.

The code name: “A-Rod.”

Host Sarah Koenig says on the podcast: “Holbrooke was a baseball fan.” And the wife of the late diplomat says, “A-Rod was a very familiar name around my house.”
