PORT ST. LUCIE — As the Mets weigh the possibility of returning to black jerseys on at least a part-time basis, Pete Alonso is endorsing the idea. The Mets began wearing the black jerseys in the 1990s, but in recent years discarded them.

“We have got to make it a thing, the Friday night blackouts,” Alonso said. “I am just picturing in my mind like everybody in the stadium, with a blacked-out jersey and I think it would be so intimidating, with a sea of black shirts out there in the outfield, with music banging out of the speakers, lights going. It would bring a lot of swagger and moxie.

“You had so many great Mets that wore those black jerseys, and I feel like that is so iconic and I feel like bring that swagger back.”
