Aaron Judge’s court extends past the batter’s box.
The Yankees sensation added to his legend Sunday afternoon in St. Petersburg, Fla., where a line drive to right-center appeared to be a gapper and trouble until all 6 feet, 7 inches of the Yankees right fielder laid out.
With no outs and Corey Dickerson on first, Evan Longoria slashed a ball in between Judge and Jacoby Ellsbury in center. Judge got a great jump on the ball, extended in mid air, and picked it off just as it was to hit the warning track, saving a run in a game the Yankees were leading 3-2 over the Rays.
Judge struggled to his feet and tossed the ball in, and a couple of relays later Chris Carter had the ball in his mitt and was touching first base to double off Dickerson, who apparently didn’t think the Longoria launch had a chance of being caught.
Judge, who entered with 15 home runs this season, found a way to make a highlight — on a day he struck out three times against Chris Archer.
