Yankees rookie right-hander Phil Hughes is tentatively scheduled to pitch for Double-A Trenton on Friday or Saturday after last night making his first rehab start since going on the disabled list in early May with a pulled left hamstring. He later twisted an ankle, lengthening his DL stay.
Hughes pitched two hitless innings for Single-A Tampa against the Dunedin Blue Jays and allowed one unearned run with three strikeouts and two walks, throwing 36 pitches overall.
Jeff Karstens, who made a rehab start Saturday for the Gulf Coast Yankees, is scheduled to pitch for Single-A Staten Island on Thursday, although there’s talk he could be sent to Trenton to pitch over the weekend instead.
