Derek Jeter isn’t that crafty.

Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis attempted to debunk the idea that Jeter’s deke faked him out, leading to a double play in the Yankees’ win over the Indians on Monday night.

“There was no deke,” Kipnis told MLB.com. “I get it. I’m as big a Derek Jeter fan as there is out there, but let’s not make up news.”

With the Yankees leading 5-3 and the tying run at the plate with one out, Asdrubal Cabrera hit a foul popup to third baseman Zelous Wheeler. Jeter pantomimed receiving a double-play feed, and Kipnis slid into second and briefly headed toward third, leading to an easy double play.

“I heard [third base coach Mike Sarbaugh] yell, ‘Go!'” Kipnis said. “I took a step toward third and then I heard the other half of his sentence, saying, ‘Go back!’ So I had to touch second base again and started going back. By that time, it was way too late.”
