A scary scene unfolded at Yankee Stadium this afternoon when an Alex Rodriguez line drive hit Indians pitcher David Huff in the head.

The screaming liner drilled Huff in the left side of his head and then bounced into right field. Huff was face down on the pitcher’s mound for several minutes as his teammates and the Indians training staff gathered around him.

Rodriguez ran to second base on the hit, then put his hands on his head. He took a few steps before kneeling down behind the mound where Huff was being attended to.

Eventually, Huff was placed on a stretcher and taken off the field on a cart. As he left the field, the crowd gave him a standing ovation and he gave a thumbs up with his left hand.

Huff was taken to New York Presbyterian Hospital to be examined. He never lost consciousness and suffered no memory loss, according to an Indians spokesman.

Huff, 25, is in his second Major League season. He entered yesterday’s game with 2-6 record and 5.25 ERA.

The Indians won the game 13-11.
