Jacob deGrom, the wrestler?

Before Tuesday’s game in Atlanta, MLB Network’s Ballpark Cam caught the Mets’ ace partaking in a wrestling match with an unidentified member of the Mets in the outfield. DeGrom pinned the person to the ground while a third person emphatically smacked the grass to signal a pinfall victory for deGrom.

The scene, though good-natured, is bound to make Mets fans wince, as the Mets’ championship aspirations largely hinge on deGrom’s prized right arm.

Injuries have been the only thing to slow deGrom down this season. He spent 16 days on the injured list in May while battling tightness in his right side. Earlier this month, he left a pair of starts prematurely with right flexor tendonitis and right shoulder soreness.

DeGrom, who has pitched to an otherworldly 0.69 ERA across 13 dominant starts, is set to take the mound again on Thursday against the Braves.
