PORT ST. LUCIE — The Mets have their first known injury of the spring: Jacob deGrom’s Cy Young Award.

DeGrom’s plaque arrived at spring training with a chip on the back side and will be returned to the manufacturer for repair, according to a club official.

DeGrom was presented with the award by Dwight Gooden at the New York Baseball Writers’ dinner on Jan. 26 in Manhattan, but after the ceremony was unsure how he should transport the plaque home to Florida. He had considered placing the award in his suitcase, but was concerned it would get damaged because enough wasn’t packed in the bag to serve as a cushion.

The plaque was given to a team official, who had it shipped to spring training. DeGrom, laughing, pointed to the team official when asked Thursday who was responsible for the chipped plaque.
