PORT ST. LUCIE — Jake Marisnick offered a denial Wednesday to the assertion the Astros were guilty of cheating last season, too.

Earlier this week, the Yankees’ Gleyber Torres asserted that Houston’s illegal sign-stealing scheme from 2017 spilled over into last year, when the Astros beat the Yankees in the ALCS. Marisnick, now a Mets outfielder, was unaware of Torres’ claim but answered to the charge.

“I’m not going to get into all that, but no, we didn’t,” Marisnick said.

Seth Lugo’s fractured left pinkie toe was the result of banging his foot on the ottoman in his hotel room, according to the right-hander. Lugo has curtailed throwing from the mound but is playing catch on flat ground.

“I am just taking it a little light on my feet,” Lugo said. “I am going to keep the arm in shape, and just take it easy on my feet for a couple of days.”

Rick Porcello and Marcus Stroman will be the starting pitchers for the Mets in Saturday’s split-squad exhibition openers. Porcello will face the Marlins in Port St. Lucie and Stroman the Cardinals in Jupiter, Fla.

Manager Luis Rojas indicated Yoenis Cespedes, Jed Lowrie and Lugo are the only players likely not to be ready for the start of the Grapefruit League games. Steven Matz will face the Cardinals on Sunday in Port St. Lucie.

Tomas Nido showed the Mets last season that he’s a capable receiver behind the plate, but he realizes he’ll have to hit if he intends to stick as the backup catcher.

To that end, he hired a swing coach during the offseason to help with his approach. Last season, Nido posted a .547 OPS in 50 games for the Mets.

“Just a better bat-path and hitting the ball to all directions of the field,” Nido said of his changes. “Not just slapping singles, kind of driving the ball into the gap and having a better chance of being successful and battling in at-bats.”

Nido is out of minor league options. Rene Rivera is the other catcher in camp competing for the backup job, behind starter Wilson Ramos.

MLBPA executive director Tony Clark indicated Carlos Beltran had the union’s support during the investigation into the Astros’ illegal sign-stealing scheme, but as a retired player employed by a team, he fell into a different category. Beltran was named in MLB’s report on the sign stealing and subsequently parted ways with the Mets as manager.

“I played against Carlos a long time,” Clark said. “I know what Carlos is about. His situation was a difficult one because he was employed by a club at the time interviews were happening. There were some challenges. … He had his own counsel and he had our support.”

Noah Syndergaard broke Amed Rosario’s bat throwing live batting practice. Robinson Cano had one good swing against Syndergaard.

Brad Brach became the latest Mets pitcher to surrender a loud hit to Yoenis Cespedes, who delivered a shot off the left-field fence against the right-hander. Cespedes hit a similar shot against Rick Porcello a day earlier.

Pete Alonso took time to sign a fan’s fluorescent poster board that read: “I chose Polar Bear instead of Mickey.”

Full-squad workouts continue in preparation for Saturday’s split-squad Grapefruit League opener. The Mets face the Marlins in Port St. Lucie and the Cardinals in Jupiter.
