As the Bleacher Creatures chanted his name during roll call in the top of the first inning of his home debut Tuesday, Jasson Dominguez confirmed he is not from this world.
“The Martian” smiled, touched his index fingers together and lifted one finger to the sky while facing the fans — a reference to “E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial,” the movie about a friendly alien.
And a movie that came out 21 years before the 20-year-old Dominguez was born.
After the 5-1 win over the Tigers, Dominguez smiled and said he has not actually seen the film.
Asked where he got the idea, he pointed at interpreter Marlon Abreu, who added that it was several people who had the thought.

Dominguez, who debuted in Houston with a home run in his first MLB swing, earned the moniker as a teenager in the Dominican Republic whose abilities clearly did not belong with the other teenagers he was playing with.
The Yankees landed him with a franchise-record $5.1 million signing bonus in 2019, and he has risen quickly. In his first game in The Bronx — and first time stepping foot in Yankee Stadium — Dominguez went 1-for-4 with a double blasted to right-center in the eighth inning.
