Derek Jeter hit a single to left field in the bottom of the first inning tonight to break the record for hits by a player in Yankee Stadium.

It gave Jeter 1,270 hits at the Stadium, one more than Lou Gehrig. The shortstop entered the final homestand needing 10 hits for the mark, and got nine in the first three games before going hitless last night.

He got his hit tonight off White Sox starter Gavin Floyd.
