Derek Jeter’s ground-rule double to left field in the third inning moved him into second place on the all-time Yankees list.
Jeter’s 450th double in pinstripes nudged him past Bernie Williams; Jeter trails Lou Gehrig by 84 for the franchise lead.
Jeter was the lineup against the Orioles after leaving Monday’s game with tightness in his hamstring.
“I’m fine,” Jeter said, calling it a non-issue.
Jeter led off, followed by Nick Swisher. Curtis Granderson batted eighth.
Brett Gardner is being given a scheduled day off. He injured his right thumb on Monday but said he could play. Joe Girardi just wanted to give him a rest.
Jeter was hit with a pitch in the second inning Monday against the Indians. He singled in the fifth inning, and again in the seventh, after which Joe Girardi lifted him for pinch-runner Ramiro Pena.
Jeter’s 2-for-3 day gave him a .486 (17-for-35) average over his past eight games.
