TAMPA, Fla. — Derek Jeter refused to address anything regarding Alex Rodriguez’s steroid admission today, saying he will do it once all the media is down at the Yankees’ spring training facility in Tampa.
Jeter explained that he didn’t want to keep answering the same questions repeatedly. Jeter also mentioned that he would wait for the players to move over to the major-league side of the team’s complex before discussing the subject, which doesn’t happen until the position players report on Feb. 18.
Brett Gardner, who is battling for the Yankees’ centerfield job, talked about Rodriguez’s admission.
“I don’t know if I was disappointed because over the last several years a lot of that stuff has come out,” Gardner said. “I don’t think that anyone suspected he had done anything, but I am just glad he admitted his mistake.”
Gardner said he has already forgiven A-Rod, but he couldn’t speak for the entire organization.
“I know I already have,” Gardner said. “He’s our teammate and I think everybody else in the organization hopefully has and if not then they will. We can all work together and work toward our goal of making the playoffs and hopefully playing for the World Series.”
