Derek Jeter was out of the lineup for the the Yankees’ 5-2 win over the Rangers this afternoon with a head cold.

But the Yankees did fine without their captain.

Ramiro Pena took Jeter’s place at shortstop and hit a two-run single that gave the Yankees a 4-2 lead. Brett Gardner took Jeter’s place on top of the top of the order and went 2-for-3.

Jeter was taken out of yesterday’s win over Texas because of the sickness.
