TAMPA — Yankees relievers Joba Chamberlain and Mariano Rivera threw bullpen sessions at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Friday.

Chamberlain, who is coming back from Tommy John surgery in June, threw 25 pitches after Rivera tossed 26 in his third bullpen outing.

After the workout, Chamberlain and pitching coach Larry Rothschild were going to call Dr. James Andrews, who performed the surgery, to see what the next step is.

“He wants to know what Larry has seen and what I feel like,” said Chamberlain, who talks with Andrews about every three weeks.

The next step is Chamberlain throwing sliders and curveballs, but it’s not known when he will do that. The Yankees aren’t expecting Chamberlain back until June but it could be sooner.
