We finally are seeing all four of the baby Mets play.
While the Mets are eight games back of a playoff spot as the playoffs are a pipe dream, the fan base can at least see some of what the future might hold.
Ronny Mauricio has had at least one hit in all five games he’s played. Brett Baty looks a bit more comfortable. Mark Vientos is hitting the ball well now that he’s playing. Francisco Alvarez ended his home run drought. The young pieces are starting to show they could be considered for 2024.
What about 2025 and beyond?
SNY’s “The Mets Pod” co-host and prospect expert Joe DeMayo joined me on a new “Amazin’ But True” podcast to dissect the baby Mets and break down the prospects they got at the trade deadline.
‘Amazin’ But True’ Podcast with Jake Brown & SNY’s Joe DeMayo:
- RONNY MAURICIO: He has looked good so far at the plate and in the field. There is a good chance he is a starter next season. He could play second or third or DH, maybe a little left field.
- BABY METS: Francisco Alvarez hit a rookie wall. He ended his home run drought Tuesday. He’s athletic behind the plate and has improved vastly defensively. He’s going to be just fine and a key part of the 2024 Mets and beyond. Any reason to be concerned with Brett Baty? Strong chance he will be the Mets starting third baseman next season. Is there a place for Mark Vientos? Will he part of the Mets plans for 2024?
- METS TOP PROSPECTS: Joe does a fantastic analysis for all the prospects the Mets got at the trade deadline. Could Luisangel Acuna be on the Mets at some point next year? What can he bring to the team? Could Drew Gilbert be here in 2024? What is Ryan Clifford’s outlook? Does Jeremiah Jackson have a shot to make it up here next year?
- PETE ALONSO: Joe says the Mets should go nowhere near trading Pete Alonso and says his No. 20 should end up hanging in the rafters. The Mets need to find a way this winter or next offseason to lock him up to a long-term deal.
