If Joe Girardi wants to learn more about his former team than what he sees on TV, he will have the chance Tuesday to catch up with several of his former players, his replacement and the man who decided to let him go.
Girardi is scheduled to be among a large group of athletes, celebrities and business leaders who will participate in BTIG’s Charity Day 2018 at BTIG headquarters in Manhattan.
CC Sabathia, David Robertson, Dellin Betances and Didi Gregorius are among the long list of stars attending. Also on the list are Aaron Boone and general manager Brian Cashman.
Former Yankees Mariano Rivera and David Cone are also confirmed participants.
The stars will serve as guest traders talking to clients in an effort to raise awareness and donations to organizations in need of funding.
“This shows the good side of Wall Street,’’ said Steven Starker, co-founder of BTIG. “A lot of times Wall Street gets a bad rap. This is giving back to a lot of very good causes.”
Joe Girardi and Brian CashmanAPStarker, a former partner at Goldman Sachs who started at Spear Leeds Kellogg, said BTIG Charity Day has raised about $50 million in 14 years and $5.2 million in 2017.
“We are looking to beat last year,” Starker who is part of the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks ownership group.
Sabathia enjoys talking to clients and said he understands the value of what BTIG does.
“It’s always for a good cause and there are a bunch of people there. You never know who you are going to see,’’ Sabathia said.
Asked if the clients want to talk Yankees, Sabathia said, “It’s always a quick conversation, some do, some don’t.”
All-time home run king Barry Bonds, former Mets ace Doc Gooden, Giants quarterback Eli Manning and former Giant stars Phil Simms and Lawrence Taylor and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell are among the many scheduled to participate.
