John Sterling is OK, WFAN partner Suzyn Waldman said, after he was struck by a foul ball during the ninth-inning of the Yankees’ 3-1 win over the Red Sox on Saturday night in The Bronx.
The final batter of the game, Boston’s Justin Turner, sent a Clay Holmes offering back toward the Yankees’ radio booth.
“Swung on, a popped foul, back here,” Sterling said on the radio before he exclaimed, “Ow! Ow! Ow! It really hit me. I didn’t know it was coming back that far.”
Sterling is OK after being struck by a ninth-inning foul ball off the bat of Red Sox hitter Justin Turner.
The 84-year-old, longtime voice of the Yankees is a model of resilience and quickly bounced back.
“So once again, it’ll be a 3-2,” Sterling said, barely missing a beat, before Holmes got Turner to ground out, ending the game.
Waldman spread word after the game that Sterling, who missed the Yankees’ West Coast trip last week because of an illness, came through OK.
