Jon Lester reacted with anger and love to David Ortiz’s shooting.

Lester also offered his opinion on what he believes happened to his former Red Sox teammate, likely based on the surveillance video of the shooting.

“Utter shock. That was no robbery, that was a hit, and they better get to the bottom of it. Thank god no amount of evil or hate can overcome a heart that big. You got this David Ortiz, we love you bro!” Lester tweeted on Monday morning.

The video shows the gunman come up from behind Ortiz and then a puff of gunsmoke emerges.

Ortiz had surgery overnight and, while there was damage to several internal organs, he is expected to make a full recovery.

Lester, who now pitches for the Cubs, and Ortiz spent nine seasons together in Boston between 2006 and 2014.
