BOSTON — Jonathan Loaisiga is hurt again, cutting his season short.

The Yankees setup man landed back on the injured list Tuesday with right elbow inflammation. He also missed four months earlier this season after surgery to remove a bone spur from the same elbow.

Manager Aaron Boone said he did not think the two elbow issues were related, but indicated that Loaisiga began feeling some soreness a few days ago.

The right-hander returned to New York to be checked out further, and while the Yankees are hopeful the condition is not serious, Loaisiga will not pitch again this season.

“I don’t think [it’s] a big deal, but enough to want to be cautious with it,” Boone said in between games of the Yankees’ doubleheader sweep against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.

Since coming back from his first IL stint on Aug. 8, Loaisiga gave up zero earned runs across his first 12 appearances before getting tagged for five earned runs in his last two outings.

Loaisiga has proven to be a talented back-end arm for the Yankees, but he has too often been injured.

He missed time in each of the last two seasons with right shoulder inflammation (2022) and a right shoulder strain (2021). He also missed three months in 2019 with another right shoulder strain.

“Certainly every season’s been interrupted,” Boone said. “When he’s going well, it’s as good as there is because he’s efficient, he’s got great stuff, he can get [righty and lefty hitters] out. He can go one-plus for you. He can fill any role, whether it’s closing out a game or in the biggest spots. When he’s going good, I don’t know if there’s much better in the league, frankly.”

The Yankees called up veteran reliever Zach McAllister — a 2006 draft pick of the franchise who last appeared in the majors in 2018 — from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Loaisiga’s spot in the bullpen.

The 35-year-old, who signed a minor league deal with the Yankees in August, tossed a scoreless sixth inning with a walk and a strikeout.

To make room for McAllister on the 40-man roster, the Yankees transferred Anthony Rizzo (post-concussion syndrome) to the 60-day IL.

The Yankees on Tuesday claimed right-hander Luke Weaver off waivers from the Mariners.

The 30-year-old, who has a 6.77 ERA across 110 ¹/₃ innings this season with the Reds and Mariners, could help soak up some innings for a beat-up pitching staff before he becomes a free agent this offseason.

To open a spot on the 40-man roster for Weaver, the Yankees transferred Nestor Cortes to the 60-day IL.

Oswald Peraza (left knee swelling) started in the nightcap at shortstop after sitting out the previous two games.

Jasson Dominguez (torn UCL) was still gathering opinions on surgery as of Tuesday morning. … Ian Hamilton (groin strain) could return to the bullpen by the series that begins Friday in Pittsburgh.

After the game Monday was postponed by rain, the Yankees got the night free to watch the Jets-Bills game. But they were still at Fenway Park, with many of them watching inside the clubhouse, when Aaron Rodgers suffered the torn Achilles that ended his season.

“Man, that’s brutal,” Boone said. “All the expectations and excitement around it all offseason, building to that game. To have him go out four plays in, that’s pretty devastating.”
