Free agent third baseman Justin Turner is signing with the Boston Red Sox.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Joon Lee, Turner has agreed to a two-year contract worth $22 million that includes an opt-out after the first season.
The signing comes as the Red Sox have been losing talent left and right, with J.D. Martinez heading to the Dodgers and Xander Bogaerts signing with the Padres. Turner adds some much-needed production into a Boston lineup in desperate for it.
Turner, 38, has spent the last nine years with the Dodgers, slashing .296/.375/.490 with 156 home runs and 574 RBIs during that span. The third baseman is a two-time All-Star and won the World Series with the Dodgers in 2020. In 2022, Turner hit .278 with a .788 OPS, 13 home runs, 36 doubles and 81 RBIs.
Justin Turner is signing with the Boston Red Sox on a two-year, $22 million contract. APWith third base currently occupied by Rafael Devers, ESPN reports Turner is set to mostly be a designated hitter and first baseman. Devers is heading into the last year of his contract with Boston and could command a high value in the trade market.
