The Yankees got some decent injury news Wednesday, when they announced Justin Wilson’s left shoulder tightness would only require anti-inflammatory medication and rest.
An MRI exam Tuesday was compared to one taken prior to the lefty’s signing with the Yankees last month and “there was nothing actionable from those images,” the team said in a statement during its game against the Blue Jays.
Wilson will continue to receive treatment “over the next several days before resuming a throwing program.”
Still, he may not be ready for Opening Day.
“The answer is, ‘I don’t know,’ ’’ Boone said. “I feel like we got pretty good news on the MRI. … We’ll see where we are in a couple days as things unfold.”
The 33-year-old left Monday’s game after throwing 20 pitches, when he signaled to trainer Steve Donohue and Boone.
Justin Wilson Charles Wenzelberg / New YorkWilson was throwing 91-92 mph before exiting the game. He’d been at 93-95 mph in prior outings.
The Yankees are already missing one southpaw from the bullpen, with Zack Britton recovering from surgery to remove a bone chip from his left elbow.
Boone said Aroldis Chapman is scheduled to pitch in two of the Yankees’ final three Grapefruit League games before he serves a two-game suspension to begin the season for throwing near the head of Tampa Bay’s Mike Brosseau last season.
