Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez is set to rejoin the team Saturday after his two-day suspension.
The Mets put Rodriguez on the restricted list after he was arrested and charged with third-degree assault on his girlfriend’s father following Wednesday night’s game.
Jerry Manuel said Friday he doesn’t expect Rodriguez to address his teammates in a clubhouse meeting, but added the reliever would be welcome to do so if he wanted.
Manuel said he thinks the pitcher’s teammates are concerned about him and will embrace him when he returns. Manuel said he sent a text message to Rodriguez during his absence, but didn’t hear back.
Manuel said he thinks Rodriguez will be able to handle this personal problem and will be effective in the closer’s role.
