With Brian Cashman in attendance for his start last night, Ian Kennedy did everything last night to prove to his general manager that the Yankees decision to give Kennedy a couple of confidence-boosting starts in the minors was the right one. In 7-1/3 shutout innings, the right-hander allowed one hit and one hit batsman, struck out eight and didn’t walk anyone. Kennedy allowed one runner to get past first base, and had a no-hitter going through 5-2/3 innings.
“He threw a very good game,” Scranton radio play-by-play man Mike Vander Wood said today. “He had a lot of first pitch strikes, had really good command, threw his change over for strikes … I think the Yankees probably envisioned that was what he would do.”
“He really looked good and never really got himself in trouble. He made it look easy, he really did.”
In this blog post by the Scranton Times-Tribune’s Chad Jennings , Kennedy sounded like he expected to do as well as he did.
“Iâm trying to say it humbly, but it doesnât matter what I say, itâs going to come out cocky,” he said. “You just know. I woke up today and told my wife, I just have a feeling Iâm going to make these guys look stupid.”
I’m sure the Yankees and their fans are hoping they see more that from Kennedy over the next couple weeks, and that they see him back with the big club sometime soon.
