MILWAUKEE — Keon Broxton’s value to the Mets is largely as a defensive player, but Sunday the outfielder might as well have left his glove at home.

In maybe the key play of the Mets’ 3-2 loss, Broxton misplayed Orlando Arcia’s fly to right field in the third inning. The ball went for a double — an error was not charged on the play — helping the Brewers score their runs. After a sacrifice fly, Christian Yelich hit a titanic two-run homer off Jason Vargas, but if Broxton catches Arcia’s ball, it’s possible Yelich wouldn’t have batted in the inning.

“Day games here in Miller Park, it’s pretty tough to see, especially going through the stands,” said Broxton, a former Brewers outfielder. “The bright lighting and just a bad judgement play by me. The ball carried a little further than I thought it would and I tried to jump, my foot just stayed onto the ground. Definitely a bad read on my part.”

It’s been a nightmarish start to the season for Broxton, who doubled to snap an 0-for-18 skid but owns a .156/.224/.178 slash line.

Broxton said it’s been difficult sitting on the bench for stretches without a plate appearance.

“Getting into the box it’s a little bit of a factor, not seeing it consistently, so it’s a little tougher on me,” Broxton said. “I just work hard every day and try to prepare myself the best I can to be ready for every situation.”

Amed Rosario rebounded from a dreadful two-error performance — in which he also dropped a throw — by going 3-for-4 at the plate without a defensive miscue. The three hits tied a season high for Rosario.

Justin Wilson will be evaluated Monday for possible activation from the injured list, according to Callaway. The lefty reliever has been sidelined the last two weeks.

Jed Lowrie played a second straight rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse and went 1-for-4.
