That’s what friends are for.

Cubs star Kris Bryant made former teammate Kyle Schwarber feel right at home when he returned to Wrigley Field on Monday — his first time as a visitor since Chicago non-tendered him in the offseason. Schwarber signed a one-year, $10 million contract with the Nationals.

After receiving a warm welcome — including tribute videos and cheers and ovations from Cubs fans — Schwarber found a Twix bar in left field, courtesy of Bryant. The gesture between the starting left fielders was caught on camera by fans in the bleachers, who had fun with the surprise gift.

It turns out that Bryant’s in-game present gave Schwarber an advantage at the plate. He drilled a two-run homer to center field on a 93-mph pitch off Adbert Alzolay. The fourth-inning blast cut the Cubs’ lead to 4-3, though Chicago held on for a 7-3 win.

After the game, Schwarber said he ate the Twix while on the field and credited the chocolate candy for helping him relax.

“So I might need to eat a Twix tomorrow. It was really pretty good,” Schwarber said postgame.

“I looked at [Bryant] like, ‘Are you crazy, man?’ But it was funny gesture and he actually texted me after the game and I sent him a little shot back, but it was a funny little feature and it’s just like I said, we form bonds, from what we did and just being able to play each other for so long and — you know, he gave me a good little jab there.”

The Cubs drafted Schwarber No. 4 overall in the 2014 MLB draft. He hit 121 home runs in his six seasons with Chicago.
