The Mets can’t escape Kyle Schwarber.

A year after the slugger tortured the Mets as a member of the Nationals, Schwarber will be returning to the NL East after agreeing to a deal with the Phillies. The Athletic reported the contract is for four years with an annual salary of around $20 million.

Schwarber, 29, slashed .395/.452/1.158 with nine home runs in 38 at-bats against the Mets last season. Schwarber was traded from the Nationals to the Red Sox at the trade deadline last year.

After settling for a one-year deal last offseason with Washington, Schwarber rehabbed his value with an impressive 2021 season that included 32 home runs. He was also helped out by the universal DH being enacted for this season.

Schwarber will now slot into an impressive Phillies lineup headlined by Bryce Harper and J.T. Realmuto. Joe Girardi’s squad is coming off a disappointing 82-80 season in which many expected them to contend for the National League pennant.
