The Mets will try to keep their recent hot streak alive here in San Diego tonight when Mike Pelfrey (pictured) takes on the Padresâ unbeaten Josh Banks at Petco Park. Pelfrey, who has lost his past six decisions, is making his first start since being given a reprieve by Willie Randolph earlier this week. Needing to create a roster spot for Pedro Martinez, Randolph kept Pelfrey in the rotation while sending Claudio Vargas to the bullpen and demoting reliever Carlos Muniz instead.
Ryan Church, meanwhile, is back in the lineup tonight in right field after begging out of Wednesdayâs series finale in San Francisco due to fatigue.
