It’s Monday, which means a brand new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and I. It was a tough episode this week, as we cope with the loss of an incredible photographer and person, Anthony Causi, who died Sunday at 48 after a battle with the coronavirus. We open the show honoring Causi, a longtime Post photographer, and Figgie talks about his memories with Causi over the years and reads a text he received Monday from Causi’s sister, Maria.

N.Y. Post baseball columnist Ken Davidoff then drops by to share his memories off Causi, including the time they spent together at various spring trainings and alongside Yoenis Cespedes at the Mets slugger’s ranch in Florida. Fellow photographer Gemini Keez join the show to share his memories of Causi and how Causi was a mentor to him in the photo industry.

Mets radio voice Howie Rose then joins the show, and he discusses Causi’s passing. Rose also talks about finally joining Twitter, if his daughter Alyssa got him to do it, him asking my (eventual) mom out in 1983, getting to call Mets games and having to pinch himself, his favorite Mets moment as a broadcaster and whether there will be baseball this year. Rose actually remembered the story I recounted of him meeting my mom in 1983 at a car dealership in Queens.

Dwight Gooden, the Mets legend and 1986 World Series champion, then joins the show. Doc talks about his days in New York, his ups and downs — on and off the field — and what he would have done differently, what happened during his relapse last year. Doc shares some fun memories from the Studio 54 days and where the spots were in the city and Queens to party in the 80’s and 90’s.
