Livan Hernandez signed
PORT ST. LUCIE — The Mets today added veteran right-handed Livan Hernandez to the mix for their No. 5 starter job. Hernandez, the half-brother of former Met Orlando Hernandez, signed a minor-league deal potentially worth $1 million to join Freddy Garcia, Tim Redding, Jonathon Niese and Robert Parnell in competition for the spot. Livan Hernandez, a Cuban who is listed at 33 years old but is thought to be much older, is 147-139 with a 4.25 ERA in 13 major-league seasons. He spent last season with the Twins and Rockies, compiling a 13-11 record and 6.05 ERA overall.
